Poker Articles - Tips from the Champ

Free Poker Advice

Robert “DÖDARN” Lux was the Nordic Champion of 2004, and has experienced great success in his poker play. Expekt.com contacted him to give you some good tips for playing poker.

Eat nutritious food and exercise

Through maintaining a healthy diet, mostly before and during poker play, one can make sure that the brain has enough”fuel” and is at its best. Exercise will do the same, only with increased effects if done on top of proper nutrition.

Follow your own biological clock and play when you feel most focused and relaxed

I myself play mostly evenings and nights based on several reasons. Foremost, I get to play on my own without disturbances, and also because this is when I feel the most focused and relaxed. During daytime I feel like meeting up with friends and family, and cannot focus properly if I try to play poker.

Analyse your wins, but most of all your losses!

This is probably one of the best tips I can offer to make sure you have success in poker. Self-analysis ensures that your poker skills will improve. Anybody can win once, but to have the discipline not to take losses personal and learn from them is invaluable!

Play only when you feel on top mentally

Playing poker is a major mental effort, at least if you play to win. If you are sad, angry or in any other way not on top, this will influence your gaming as it becomes impossible to focus 100% on the game. This is what happens to many players when they lose their cool and also their chips.

Pick the right tables

Too many players only play for the pride and kicks you get from “taking down” known players. Play for money instead, and seek out the table which has the right average pots, poor players, high rate of calls pre-flop, or other factors you consider beneficial for yourself. If a table is obviously not suitable for you, have the discipline to leave it immediately.
