On the 16th of November the legendary poker player T.J. Cloutier played both live and online with Expekt.com customers who won their seats through competitions in the poker client. T.J. had a great time playing against these players and he noticed some small details which he wants to share with all Expekt.com customer. Here are T.J. Cloutier’s five tips how you become a better poker player, both online and live.
"Hi everyone,
First I would like to thank all the players who I played against. I really enjoyed it. I was pleased with my own game even-though I did not win. But I cannot complain because I got knock out sitting on a good hand. Sometimes someone else has a better hand than you and that is the way poker goes sometimes.Anyway, I did some observations during my play with the Expekt.com customers and I have presented them below.
1. . BE MORE OBSERVANT:
When I play with good amateur players I notice that most of them are not paying attention to their opponents’ tells. Make sure you always use your opponent’s habits and characteristics to benefit your game.
2. PLAY QUALITY HANDS:
Some players play too many hands. You should always play good starting hands only and play them in optimal position.
3. IF YOU BLUFF:
When you win the pot, be satisfied with your win. Don’t rub it in by showing your opponent that you out-played him. This can come back and haunt you at some later time in the game. Always be a gentleman.
4. KNOW HOW TO BET:
Always be aware of how much you can bet and get called. Play each opponent individually and they will show you in the course of the game if they are liberal callers or if they will only call small bets.
5. PATIENCE:
Be patient and never worry about the size of your opponent’s stack. Remember that one or two double-ups will usually put you in the lead at your table. So, there isn’t any hurry. You can’t win a tournament in the early rounds, but you can surely lose it. "
